Dr. Hinman previously was superintendent of the West Covina Unified School District for six years before retiring in July 2021. He also served as assistant superintendent of secondary education, site administrator and teacher in several school districts across Orange County, including Newport Mesa Unified, Saddleback Unified and Santa Ana Unified.

The Board of Trustees is moving forward with the search process for a new superintendent to replace Dr. Mark Johnson, who was hired to lead the Tustin Unified School District in November.

“We are excited to have Dr. Hinman joining us. He is an outstanding educational leader with proven results,” said Board President Lisa Schultz. “His leadership will help assure that our district continues its tradition of excellence while our Board of Trustees continues the superintendent search process.”

Dr. Hinman earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Montana State University, a master’s degree in administration from United States International University in San Diego, and a doctorate in education administration from the University of Southern California.

"I am honored to serve as the interim superintendent for the Fountain Valley School District and look forward to working collaboratively with the Board of Trustees, teachers, administrators, staff, parents and community members to provide an unparalleled foundation for our students,” Dr. Hinman said. “It is an exemplary district and I am grateful to be a part of the Fountain Valley family during this transitionary period."
