Serving seniors during the COVID-19 crisis

The Center at Founders Village Senior and Community Center doors are closed, but staff members are at the center answering phones and assisting residents from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Here is a recap of services currently available:

In collaboration with the city’s contractor, Meals on Wheels Orange County, the center offers the following:

  • Distribution of seven frozen meals each Thursday for a “Grab and Go” set up at The Center. Seniors can register on site. More than 1,700 frozen meals have been distributed so far.

  • Home-delivered meals.

  • Backup frozen meals should a senior need a meal on another day besides Thursday.

“We are giving out brain fitness word search, crossword and sudoku puzzle books, and a treat each week to all the senior meals participants,” said Community Services Manager Nora Webb. “We’ve also set up a little library on a cart that also has some puzzles for seniors to take home. All books and puzzles are wiped down with disinfectant.”

Senior transportation is available to those enrolled in the Hop-On Senior Transportation program. Webb said the center is accepting applications even though the doors are closed.

Additionally, part-time staff and Fountain Valley Community Foundation volunteers are calling on seniors for well checks.

“We have handed out and mailed out pertinent information regarding the coronavirus to our senior community, as well as provided a list of stores that will allow seniors to shop early,” Webb added.

The senior center, in collaboration with the Fountain Valley Community Foundation and Fountain Valley Fire Department P.R.E.P. program, are delivering care packages to seniors in the community. The care packages include educational materials, hand sanitizer, contact information, puzzles and games, treats/candy, “along with care and empathy,” Webb added.

The senior center phone number is (714) 593-4446.
