Monarch Butterfly Day is May 25

OC Parks invites children and families to learn all about Monarch butterflies and their natural habitat during the 10th annual Monarch Butterfly Day on May 25 at Mile Square Regional Park.

Monarch Butterfly Day was originally scheduled for Feb. 2 but was postponed because of bad weather.

Activities will include interpretive presentations, children's crafts, face painting and a balloon artist. The event is recommended for ages 4 to 12.

Monarch Butterfly Day is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be held at the park’s Forest Shelter. The event and parking are free. Food trucks will be on site.

The state Legislature in 2004 approved Senate Concurrent Resolution 66, declaring Feb. 5, 2004, and subsequent anniversaries to be California Western Monarch Day. Mile Square Regional Park is one of the only places in Orange County that has an official Monarch Butterfly Day
