Boys & Girls Club to salute Ed Arnold at gala Saturday

It couldn’t be more appropriate for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley to pay tribute to Ed Arnold this month.

The Boys & Girls Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and Arnold is being honored as the club’s “Champion of Youth” during the club’s annual gala Oct. 21 at the Hyatt Resort in Huntington Beach.

A founding board member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley, Arnold grew up without a dad. His male role models were the staff and volunteers at his local Boys Club.

Boys & Girls Club CEO Tanya Hoxsie recalls: "I first met Ed back in 1995 when the Girls Club where I had been working merged with the Boys Club where Ed volunteered and we became the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley.

“He was helping the club raise the funds for what would become our Kingston Branch in Fountain Valley and he was there every step of the way, working to give the kids in Fountain Valley the club facility he knew they needed. Seeing his dedication and commitment, he instantly became my hero,” Hoxsie said.

Added longtime Boys & Girls Club board member (and Fountain Valley Living Magazine co-owner) Alex Accetta: “I’ve known Ed for a lot of years and in different contexts. He was a neighbor of mine for years. He’s always been special to our kids growing up. Even though he’s basically like Mr. Orange County, he’s also very down to earth, and he’s been 'Uncle Eddie' to my kids as they were growing up.”

The Boys & Girls Clubs hope to raise $475,000 at this year’s gala to fund youth programs and scholarships for less-fortunate families in Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, and the surrounding communities.

Complimentary valet parking will be available. Check-in for the event will begin at 5 p.m. and the dress code is business attire.

Numerous sponsorship opportunities are available, ranging from the $50,000 Title Sponsor to the $500 Patron Sponsor. Individual tickets are $175 per person. You can register online at www.bgchv.com/greatfutures/register.php.
