Hyundai Hope on Wheels 5K/10K registration now open

Registration is now open for the Hyundai Hope on Wheels 5K/10K, set for Sunday, Aug. 28 at the Fountain Valley Sports Park.

Cost for adults is $35 for the 5K and $60 for the 10K. Cost for children, 6-10, is $20 for either the 5K or 10K. Children 5 and under can enter for free.

The sixth annual run/walk is a benefit for pediatric cancer research. Activities include the 5K and 10K events, a vendor village, food and music.

Participants are invited to create a pledge team and be eligible to receive prizes.

Packet pickup and registration will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26 in the lobby of Hyundai Motor America; 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Fountain Valley Sports Park; and 6-7:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 at the Sports Park.

Pre-race ceremonies begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by the kids 100-yard sprint at 7:55 a.m. The 10K begins at 8 a.m. and the 5K begins at 8:20 a.m.

Presentations and the awarding of trophies is at 9:30 a.m. followed by a CHOC Children’s presentation at 10 a.m.

Additionally, as a $20,000 donor to the Fountain Valley Historical Society’s “Save the Tank House” campaign, Hyundai will host a community party on Saturday, Aug. 27 following the actual move of the tank house from Courreges Ranch to Heritage Park.

The tank house will be paraded from the Courreges Ranch at Talbert Avenue and Newland Street east on Talbert to Bushard where it will then head north one block to Slater. It will then go over the freeway, across Brookhurst Street to Los Alamos Street, just past City Hall. The tank house will then be moved into Heritage Park.

Following the move, residents are invited to head to the Fountain Valley Sports Park where Hyundai is planning a community party.

The Saturday “Hyundai Day in the Park” is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature food trucks, live music, vendors and children’s activities, opportunity drawings and more.
