Police investigating early morning shooting
An 18-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound in a Fountain Valley parking lot near Magnolia Street and Recreation Circle, Fountain Valley Police reported.
Sgt. Tony Luce said police officers were in the area at about 1 a.m. facilitating the flow of traffic for the conclusion of a Fountain Valley Skating Center event.
In an adjacent parking lot, officers and witnesses observed mortar fireworks that were followed by several shots of gunfire. Officers located an 18-year-old male victim in the parking lot that had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was immediately transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. Following the gunfire, witnesses observed a white passenger vehicle fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. No arrests were made and the incident remains under investigation.
During the incident several Orange County law enforcement agencies responded to the location for mutual aid assistance. No further incidents or injuries to officers occurred during the event.
