City continues discussion on proposed digital sign until future City Council meeting

The Fountain Valley City Council has voted to continue the discussion about the proposal by Clear Channel to install a digital sign next to the 405 freeway by the city's water tower. On a 3-2 vote Tuesday night, the Council voted to discuss the item again at an upcoming meeting.

The discussion Tuesday included a number of residents from both Fountain Valley and neighboring Costa Mesa voicing opinions both for and against the sign. It also included a presentation by Clear Channel that also answered questions about the proposed digital sign. A consultant hired by the city to look in to the proposal also gave his assessment.

Because the new proposal is significantly different from the one given to the Planning Commission in August, Mayor Pro-Tem Brothers asked for time to look into many of the questions posed at the meeting and over the past few days.

Mayor Steve Nagel expressed he would be voting against the sign tonight, as did Councilmember Mark McCurdy. Members Cheryl Brothers, John Collins and Michael Vo did not express particular interest yet, but supported getting more of their questions answered and therefore asking for more time.

The item will be discussed again at an upcoming council meeting once it is agendized.
