Fountain Valley gets ready for Special Olympics Host City Festivities

Residents of Fountain Valley are invited to a series of events, beginning Monday, July 20, to show support as a Host Town for the Special Olympics World Games that start in Los Angeles on July 25.

The Fountain Valley events start with the final leg of the Special Olympics torch run on Monday, July 20 at 6:40 p.m. The Fountain Valley portion of the run will start at the intersection of Brookhurst and Edinger and proceed to the Fountain Valley Police Department at Brookhurst and Slater.

A welcoming ceremony is planned for Tuesday, July 21, at Heritage Park from 5 – 8 p.m. Heritage Park is located next to the Fountain Valley Library on Los Alamos. The ceremony will welcome the athletes from Netherlands that Fountain Valley is hosting.

A third event, the Hyundai Carnival in the Park is for the athletes only. Volunteers from the community will help at that event on Thursday, July 23.

The final event of the week will also be at Mile Square Park on July 23 during the Concert in the Park.

Residents are encouraged to wear orange and bring flags to the events to show support for the athletes and the host town.
