Former mayor and longtime City Council member Guy Carrozzo passed away this morning, family members confirmed. He had just turned 83.

Carrozzo, a retired school principal, died at about 5 a.m., his daughter, Kim Porrazzo, said. He was first elected to the City Council in 1990 and served as mayor four times. He and his wife Dolores have two children and four grandchildren.

Carrozzo was a longtime resident and also an active member of VFW Post 9557 and the Knights of Columbus at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

During his years as a member of the City Council, Carrozzo took pride in not taking any campaign contributions. His focus was on improving the city’s traffic flow and supporting public safety.

“Guy loved Fountain Valley and he really gave it his all after he was elected and event after he left the council,” said former City Councilman Larry Crandall. “He liked to be known as a person who helped the military and the veterans and the children of the community.”

“He had a great family live and a great career,” Crandall said. “His family can be proud of his life, that’s for sure.”

Added City Councilman John Collins, who attends Holy Spirit Catholic Church and is also in the Knights Of Columbus: “When I think about him and I look back at his 83 years, he manifested a true love of God and neighbor. He was very involved in the church. He loved his neighbors through his chosen profession – education – and he helped the community be stable by being elected to the council.”

Services are expected to be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. FV Living Magazine will update when information is available. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to His Hands Christian Service at Holy Spirit.
