The 2017 Miss Fountain Valley Scholarship Pageant will be held at the Saigon Performing Arts Center. The pageant board had previously announced the pageant would be held at Hyundai Motor America. Relay for Life of Fountain Valley and Costa Mesa will hold an official kickoff pancake breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Saturday at Applebee’s in Fountain Valley. With more heavy rains predicted this season, the city once again is providing free sandbags to residents. Sandbags are available at two stations: the City Yard at 17733 Mt. Herrmann St., and at the Fountain Valley Sports Park, 16210 Brookhurst St. You should bring your own shovel. The City Council on Tuesday will hold a study session prior to its regular meeting to establish the responsibilities of the Measure HH Oversight Committee, which will be charged with the review of Measure HH Essential City Services tax revenue and expenditures. Measure HH, a 1 percent sales tax increase, was approved by city voters in the Nov. 8 general election. The study session, which is open to the public, is set for 4:30 p.m. in the council chambers prior to the 6 p.m. r
Fountain Valley Police arrested a 37-year-old man Jan. 7 on suspicion of aggravated trespassing, Sgt. Tony Luce said. Police responded to the 9000 block of Shimizu River Circle at 1:36 a.m. Jan. 7 after receiving a report that a subject was walking up to the front door of residences and approaching vehicles in the area. The police investigation revealed that the suspect entered an unlocked and occupied residence, entered the victim’s bedroom and stood over the victim’s bed.
Tickets go on sale Jan. 9 for the Fit and Fabulous Fashion Show. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 27 at The Center at Founders Village Senior and Community Center. The event is a benefit fashion show featuring Fountain Valley models modeling contemporary fashions. Funds raised support the senior nutrition program at the Center. The creation of a downtown core for Fountain Valley will continue to be explored by the Planning Commission and City Council in 2017, city officials say. City officials are looking at a new zoning plan known as Fountain Valley Crossings, which would allow property owners in the Crossings area to renovate and upgrade their facilities within the potential downtown area. Residents and businesses have had numerous opportunities to attend public workshops and share feedback on the
